Join Sumiware Ceramics at Malt&Stone on Saturday, November 16th from 10am-12pmfor a creative workshop where you'll learn how to construct your own unique jewelry box! In this workshop, you’ll use hardened clay slabs and simple templates to trace and cut all the pieces needed for your jewelry box. You’ll learn expert handbuilding techniques like beveling and scoring-and-slipping to attach the pieces seamlessly, creating a sturdy and beautifully crafted jewelry box. With guidance from the instructor, you’ll also have the chance to design your own unique lid and handle, giving your box a personalized touch.
Once your jewelry box is assembled, you’ll explore carving techniques to decorate the exterior. Whether you want to add intricate patterns, fun textures, or simple embellishments, carving is a great way to make your box stand out. Each jewelry box will reflect the unique style and personality of its maker.
After building and decorating your jewelry box, you’ll choose a glaze color to finish your piece. We'll handle the firing and glazing of your jewelry box and you'll receive an email for pick-up in 3-4 weeks.
Supplies needed: None! Aprons, tools, clay and other materials will be provided for you.
